No, really! One guy made headlines for marrying his AI chatbot after a whirlwind digital romance—vows, virtual honeymoon, and all.
Then there’s the user “Wika” who saw her ‘relationship’ with her AI boyfriend, “Kasper” go viral after a simulated picnic proposal. It ended… not in a breakup, but with a simple software update that erased Kasper’s romantic personality. She went into mourning, calling it her ‘digital widowhood’.
We are now, as MIT Technology Review puts it, in a "new era of human-AI relationships," pioneered by apps like Replika, Kindroid, and Nomi.
It’s easy to write this off as just bizarre. But that misses the point entirely.
This isn't just a tech story, it's a loneliness crisis. We all have a God-given hunger for connection—it’s how we’re wired (Genesis 2:18). We were never meant to do life alone.
Today's culture offers a cheap, plastic substitute: algorithm-driven “intimacy” that's systematically isolating us from each other.
Here's the real thing: God's Word gives the antidote to this loneliness.
It’s called the Church. And no, I’m not talking about a building or a program. The early church thrived under insane pressure because of people. They did life together. They stuck together.
So while the world scrolls and simulates connection, God's prescription is radically simple: “Don’t neglect meeting together... but encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:25)
In an age of digital substitutes, be an authentic original.
